Help Keep Makhaza Soup Kitchen Open

About

The Makhaza Community Action Network (partnered with Devil's Peak Vredehoek CAN) was established as a neighbourhood response to COVID-19. We form part of Cape Town Together, a network of communities self-organising to protect and support one another through this time.

We are collecting donations to assist us with our soup kitchen and essential supplies for the community.

DPV CAN helped Makhaza CAN set up a soup kitchen during lockdown - a collaboration which started as a way to assist with the immediate need for food distribution in Khayelitsha as a result of COVID-19 and the national lockdown in South Africa.

In just a few months we went from serving meals to 60 people 3 days a week to serving meals to over 100 people 5 days a week. We would love to increase the number of meals served to meet the needs of the growing number of people who have been retrenched or whose savings have run dry and who can't afford to feed their families.

Your donation will help us with much needed food, cooking supplies, masks, sanitiser, feminine hygiene products and other essentials for vulnerable families as well as support the community food garden that was started in July 2020.

If you'd like more information on the DPV CAN / Makhaza CAN partnership you can read about it here.

Thank you to so much for your support!
