ABOUT

Bonsai Show @ Bryanston 24th - 27th October

TALK WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE 26TH OCTOBER @ 11AM

The word Bonsai means ‘a small tree in a pot’ and these beautifully unique trees have been a part of Chinese culture for centuries. Growing bonsai’s is not only a hobby, it is also a precise art to grow and train a bonsai to become a distinctive creation of your own personal touch.

GardenShop Bryanston will be hosting an exhibition of living art – showcasing bonsai’s, and the delicate practice of planting and caring for the ‘tree in a pot’.

Take a step into a sanctuary of oriental tradition from 24th – 27th October 2019 from 8am to 5pm, where an array of curated, diminutive trees will be on display.

Bonsai trees are ideal indoor plants, for those who want a stylish home or office with a calm, zen-like atmosphere.

The art and skill lies in training a bonsai to grow in a sculptural form using wiring, root pruning and tree shaping. Bonsais can be created from a number of different species of trees. It is thus important that when selecting a bonsai for your home or office, it is wise to choose a tree that is indigenous or acclimatises well to alternative environments and so reflects the majesty of its natural space.

In South Africa, these range from the elegant Japanese maple to the rich burgundy leaves and berries of the Chinese sacred bamboo as well as tropical and evergreen Chinese banyan fig.

Bonsai curators are encouraged to make the most of the experience by stocking up on bonsai essentials, including: pots, pruning books and tools, root clippers, soil and organic plant food such as Nitrosol.

You could even create your own Eastern-inspired setting in your home or garden, using an array of oriental statues and incorporating GardenShop’s exquisite orchid varietals or sculptural collections to your display.

A variety of Bonsai plants are available at GardenShop, but how do you decide which one to buy and start your Bonsai hobby? Come to the Bonsai Show at GardenShop Bryanston and find out!
