ABOUT

Human beings are wired to work as a collective, in companies, communities of practice, families or sports teams. We all know that two brains working together can innovate, create and build more and better than just one brain on its own. This is common-knowledge, but check out the books and research papers, and the fact that we are social beings is rooted in science.

An Accountability Lab is a space where a small group of people can share their goals, report back on their progress and hold each other accountable. A collective and collaborative way of getting things done and enabling your version of success.

Accountability Labs are about making a habit happen

We KNOW that writing down our goals and taking time to review them is critical to our success. But with our crazy lifestyles, sometimes we just don’t make it happen! Thinking about our goals needs to become a habit or a deliberate practice.

Accountability Labs are a tool to stop, think, write down our goals and share them on a regular basis. Labs take an hour a month – an appointment with yourself to work at your goals in the most time-efficient and brain-effective way as possible.

Many of us are consultants, entrepreneurs and freelancers who feel a sense of isolation. Our brain works better when we connect it to other brains. One Small Nudge is a mechanism to provide you with support and an objective-driven forum linked to similarly self-driven, success-orientated brains. For people who work in corporates, Accountability Labs provide a safe space outside the workplace to express personal goals.

The main purpose of the Lab is to encourage action by holding each individual member accountable to set goals. The Lab is individually action-orientated. In other words, you work independently towards your own goals.

The Lab is set up from the start to make it as effective as possible, using a few ground rules. This will ensure that you will achieve your goals in a safe space, which is supportive and empowering.

To get serious results it is optimal to have objectivity from Lab members, so join a group with people you don’t know, who are from different industries and in different stages on their road to success. Diversity will ensure constructive criticism and objective distance.

How the Labs work

Run well, an Accountability Lab is a way of tracking progress over time on your goals. It will compel you to look strategically at the month ahead and establish clear priorities. You can check back in with your Lab if you start to procrastinate or become overwhelmed about the next step.

A great Accountability Lab will help you clarify your goals, get on top of your projects, catch up on your objectives if you lag, and get ahead.

1.    The optimal group size is 5-7 people.

2.    Sessions are one hour to 75 minutes, depending on group size.

3.    Each session costs R300.00 per person.

4.    You will be required to commit to nine sessions which will take a year to complete. You will always be with the same Lab members.

This is science-based stuff

Our brains are complex, adaptive systems. Labs are a tool to be used by you for reflective, rather than reflexive thinking. In the hour you spend in your Lab, you will be engaging your prefrontal cortex, engaging in a loop of analysis-insight-analysis, and ticking the boxes to get to your objectives and plans. The Lab is set up to be a social learning environment where conversation is facilitated in order for you to use your brain optimally and jump ahead in your life’s goals.

Labs are based on adult learning theory, basic principles of neuroscience and systems theory.
