POP TART CREATIVE is proud to present the first in a series of workshops aimed at educating and assisting the development of artists and creatives within the music industry.

John started his career within the publishing world over 20 years ago at PolyGram UK working alongside luminaries such as Van Morrison, Lighthouse Family , Fat Boy Slim and Wet Wet Wet.

The next challenge for John was a move to Germany to start the film publishing and record division for PolyGram where he successfully worked on 4 German and 3 UK full length films as well as 3 television series for the GAS territories.

John was later given the opportunity to relocate to South Africa and spearhead Polygram Music Publishing in South Africa in 1997. Within the 14 years of John's tenure with PolyGram the company had a massive impact within the South African market through acquisitions and signings ranging from the late Jabu Khanyile, Jimmy Dludlu and Mama Africa herself Yvonne Chaka Chaka .

Never one to pass up a challenge John decided to partner with Kosie van Niekerk and start and independent music publishing venture, Active Music Publishing.

Active Music Publishing currently work and represent writers and artists which include, Shekhinah, Karen Zoid, Sketchy Bongo, Francois van Coke, Lloyd Cele, Locnville to name but a few.

A few talking points John will guide you through will be how to protect your works, the basic aspects of publishing. Understanding royalties and how to grow your career using various resources within the publishing world.
