ABOUT

New summer, low-carb menu launched for Brian’s Banting Kitchen Pop-Ups

Well known Cape Town public relations consultant and journalist Brian Berkman successfully shed the heft which caused his Type 2 Diabetes and transformed himself from a sedentary heavyweight to someone who is fit and enjoys an active lifestyle. He attributes his massive weight loss and success in keeping the bulk off, for more than five years, to the low-carbohydrate and high-fat diet commonly referred to as Banting or Keto which was brought to global attention by Prof Tim Noakes.

Now, following Brian’s Kitchen Pop-Ups in December, he is planning monthly get-togethers that will also demonstrate how easy it is to live and entertain while maintaining the low-carb way. “These pop-ups, in our light-filled Pringle Bay home, will serve as the foundation for Low-Carb Sugar-Free Entertaining for the Lazy Cook, a book idea that has been on the back-burner for a while now. Not only will guests get to taste the dishes but will also be given recipes and tips on preparation.”, Berkman explains.

Berkman says he revised the menu concept and pricing following feedback from the December pop-up. “Initially I planned to cater for both the lovers of carbs and those of us who avoid them but low-carbing guests had FOMO when fellow diners were feasting on chocolate brownies and carrot cupcakes when they couldn’t. Going forward, all Brian’s Kitchen Pop-Ups dishes be low-carb and effectively sugar-free.”
