ABOUT

HOW IT WORKS…

Your booking is NOT TRANSFERABLE to another date.

NO REFUNDS: We do not give refunds for unused tickets. (NOTE: Quicket offers a refund option at an extra cost, but you will be required to produce a document as proof of cancellation, for example a sick note or affidavit, and this is done on a third-party website.)

NO COMMERCIAL OR THIRD-PARTY HIKING GROUPS ARE ALLOWED PERMITS. A permit will only be issued directly to the hiker that makes the payment and attends the hike. There will be no onward selling of permits. Should you be guilty of onward selling of permits, legal action may be initiated against you.

20 permits issued per day with a maximum limit of 10 per group. We will send your permit, hike description and GPX track 2-3 days before your hike. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU DOWNLOAD THE GPX TRACK TO FIND YOUR WAY OR YOU WILL GET LOST!

The ticket you receive from Quicket is NOT the permit. Remember – No Permit, No Hike.

BOOKING AT SHORT NOTICE: Our office hours are 8.30 to 12.30, Monday to Friday. Please book 3-4 days before your hike date, or you may not receive your permit in time. We can be contacted on 078 885 6505

DO NOT HIKE ALONE: this area is part of the Magaliesberg Biosphere and is a protected wilderness area with very few marked trails. You need to be an experienced hiker to find your way around.

Hikes are SELF GUIDED – you are responsible for your own safety. This is a DAY PERMIT only – no camping is allowed.

BEFORE YOU PAY: Please make sure that there are enough tickets for your group as numbers are limited. It is advisable to book for your entire group in one booking.

BOOK EARLY: Castle Gorge is often booked up two months in advance for weekend hikes.

HIKE DISTANCE: The hike is between 10Km and 13Km long and will take anything from 4 to 7 hours to complete. Go early and plan on being out for the whole day – take at least 2 litres of water per person, and enough energy snacks to last the day.

HIKE GRADING: We rate this hike moderate to difficult: first time hikers, children, and people with a low level of fitness will find it challenging. The hike involves a long uphill climb of 220 m over 2.5 km, rising slowly at first and becoming a lot steeper later.

NO TRESPASSING: Please stick to the route on the GPX and take note of your surroundings at regular intervals. Wandering off the path or following the river will get you lost and will result in trespassing on private property – YOU WILL GET LOST and this will have consequences

NO RELIOUS CEREMONIES ALLOWED: The property is purely for hiking purposes and use of the property for any religious ceremony is prohibited

NO FIRES ALLOWED: There are no braai areas, no bathroom facilities and no restaurants.

NO LITTER: What you take in with you, you bring out again.

Enjoy the hike.
