The Mark Fransman ‘Homage Trio' celebrates some of South Africa’s most iconic jazz musicians and seeks to spotlight them as national treasures. The quartet pays homage to such greats as Zim Ngqawana, Winston Mankunku, Hotep Galeta, Sibongile Khumalo, Errol Dyers, Robbie Jansen, Bheki Mseleku to mention but a few. Each ‘tribute’ comes in the form of an original composition (or suite), composed by Fransman. These songs are inspired by the musicality and personality specific to each of these treasured musicians. The compositions reflects on Fransman’s personal & professional relationships with each dedicatee, some of whom have mentored Mark in his formative years.

Mark Fransman is no stranger to acclaim, having been recognized with numerous awards throughout his illustrious career. As a composer, musician, and producer, Mark has garnered two South African Music Awards (SAMA), including the prestigious Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz in 2008. With years of experience in musical theater and a reputation for groundbreaking solo performances, Mark continues to push the boundaries of jazz exploration. He has recently released a jazz album called Solo. Solo has been in the making for 14 years. Recorded in 2009 by Mark Fransman, who produced, performed, mixed and mastered all the music that you’ll hear, by himself. Thus, the theme (solo) is ever present in all processes and aspects of this musical offering.
