ABOUT

Mélissa Laveaux is a Haitian Canadian singer-songwriter whose musical career, based in Paris, spans over 16 years, 4 albums, 1 musical, several awards and many tours in 43 different countries invited by some of the most prestigious jazz and pop music festivals. A self-taught guitarist, she first explored the folk music genre that filled her ears as a young Canadian. A stylistic shift installed itself when working on her 3rd album, Radyo Siwèl (2018), a reimagining of Haitian protest songs, then on 2022’s Mama Forgot her Name Was Miracle, a feminist songbook honouring forgotten heroines and heroes.

Her music has been described as a mix of roots, folk and blues, using her signature percussive finger-style guitar styling and soulful vocals.

After a worldwide tour totalling more than 100 concerts in 2023, Mélissa Laveaux is now touring in Southern Africa to write her next album, offering workshops and concerts in 8 cities over 4 countries.

Here she will be sharing the stage with N'DEN, a much loved duo led by Thulile Zama.

Thulile Zama is an incredibly versatile musician. She is best known as the lead vocalist of Heels Over Head, the all-female contemporary jazz band that was nominated for the South African Music Awards in 2011 and won the Yamaha Young Artist award in 2010.

Furthermore, she has been paying tribute to Mama Africa and Sophiatown through her quartet, since 2017. This show is a compilation of Sophiatown’s finest music with songs made famous by Miriam Makeba.

N'DEN has recently released new works titled "Sisingathiwe", a 10 track Album that echoes the essence of guardianship, warmth, protection and love for humanity.

A show that will surely leave you wanting more.
