ABOUT
Calling all fishing enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers! Join us for an exhilarating two-day fishing competition at the breathtaking Phobane Lake (AKA Goedetrouw dam). Whether you're a seasoned angler or just starting out, this event promises an unforgettable experience surrounded by the tranquility of nature.
Date: 27-29 September 2024
Location: Phobane lake (Goedetrouw dam), Nkwalini, KZN
Participants can arrive from 14:00 on Friday 27 September to setup camp and explore the lake for potential fishing spots.
Boats
There are 2 slipway areas to launch boats. One next to the dam wall as you drive over the wall and one on the far end of the camp site. There will be sign boards showing you where to go. The area in front of the camp site is a no-wake zone.
Camping
We will prepare the area as best we can for camping. Camp sites will NOT be allocated to individuals but rather on a first come, first serve basis. Find a suitable place to camp and claim it!
Ablutions
There will be separate flush toilets and cold showers for LADIES and MEN. There will be a wash bay to wash hands, dishes etc.
Drinking water
There will be bottles of water for sale but we suggest bringing drinking water especially if you are camping.
Food
There will be egg and bacon (breakfast) buns for sale on Saturday and Sunday morning and wors rolls for sale in the afternoons. There will be braai packs for sale in the evenings and braai facilities available and a few salads etc.
Security
There will be 24 hour security for the duration of the competition.
Day 1: Saturday
On the first day of the Phobane Fishing Bonanza, participants will gather at the crack of dawn to showcase their angling skills. The event kicks off with a briefing session, after which the anglers will disperse across the dam's pristine shores, each seeking out their secret spots to begin the challenge.
With prizes for largest catch of Bass, Barbel and Tilapia, there's a challenge for everyone.
Participants will have the entire day to showcase their fishing prowess, all in pursuit of the largest and most impressive catches.
At dusk, as the day draws to a close, participants will gather to share their tales of triumph and camaraderie, exchanging tips and stories over a delightful lake-side braai.
It's a perfect opportunity to bond with fellow anglers, form lasting connections, and revel in the spirit of friendly competition.
Day 2: Sunday
As the sun rises on the second day, excitement fills the air as participants gear up for a final hurrah.
While the competition heats up, spectators can enjoy the scenic beauty of Phobane dam.
The competition closes at 12 noon and winners will be announced and celebrated after lunch.
Food and drinks will be on sale both days.
Camp sites are included in the cost of your ticket.
Limited lavatory facilities.
