ABOUT

The event

Simfonia Juventi Heidelberg is a celebration of classical music in the historical setting of Heidelberg, Gauteng, on the grounds of the century old Volkskool Highschool. This event is very special as it is the second of only 3 concerts performed by this orchestra annually. We believe that Heidelberg was selected as venue for its rich cultural heritage, its excellent location and the conviviality of its people.

As a congregation we have been hosting this event in Heidelberg since 2017. It started as a fundraising event for our youth initiative aimed at the spiritual and social upliftment of children but has grown to a celebration that brings the love of classical music to the youth of Heidelberg, through local school participation, and to music lovers from near and far that has sold out this even from its inception. They came to appreciate the beauty of the wonderful, youthful talent of this unique orchestra and its conductor.

We will accommodate 460 guests in each of two shows. The first show is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 14:30 to 16:30 and is aimed at scholars and music lovers who cannot travel at night and attend the Gala event on Saturday evening. The second show is the gala event and is scheduled for Saturday evening from 18:30 to 21:00 with an interval in the middle.

The Orchestra

Simfonia Juventi, was established in 1981, and consists of 79 talented young musicians, selected from all over South Africa. Members reflect musical knowledge, technical excellence and an abundance of talent. The orchestra is constituted yearly after extensive auditions to select the best young talent. The orchestra then breaks away for an intensive training camp and after all the rehearsals, performs only three concerts each year. 

The Orchestra is led by the well-known and celebrated Naledi Winning Musical Director, Conductor, Arranger/Composer and educator, Mr. Eddie Clayton.
