Fri May 3, 13:00 - Sat May 4, 17:00

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens Richard Crowie Hall Gate 2

ABOUT

This beginner's macramé workshop is for anyone looking to invite more gentle flow into their life, and maybe fall in love with a craft that opens moments of solitude, silence and mindful rhythm.

What you’ll learn

  • 5 basic macramé knots (square knot, spiral knot (or half square knot), lark’s head knot, 4 cord braid, wrap knot)
  • An easier way of measuring cord length for future plant hanger projects
  • How to secure ends or prevent fraying while knotting or incorporating beads
  • How to adjust tension for basket section depending on the plant pot size/ shape

What’s not included but required to bring

  •   Your pot of choice - this is not provided because preference for this is so specific. I recommend:
  •    A basic ceramic or terracotta pot measuring max 18cm in height and 20cm for top rim diameter. A straight sided or tapered pot is somewhat easier to create the basket tension for, but a rounded pot can definitely also be used. Ideally no holes in the pot for ease of watering (best to place container with holes holding your plant inside your decorative pot)
  •  Scissors
  • Snacks  - knot making is energy consuming!

All other materials will be provided

Please note entry into Kirstenbosch is not included in ticket price but participants only pay R60 student entrance fee on presentation of their Quicket booking ticket.
