Oplossings vir Suid-Afrika se platteland

Tue Feb 20, 07:30 - Wed Feb 21, 16:30

Nampo-park, Bothaville

ABOUT

Sprekers sluit in:

ENGLISH

The gradual decline of rural South Africa is indicative of broader social issues in the country. From education to healthcare, roads to water supply, social cohesion to employment – if it's a South African problem, it's likely worse in the rural areas of our vast countryside.

This is further exacerbated by poor municipal management and a frightening shortage of skills. Selective law enforcement worsens an already precarious situation.

How do we ensure that rural communities not only survive but also thrive?

South Africa's decline can simply no longer be tolerated or afforded. That is why Landbouweekblad and Senwes will host a conference on February 20 and 21 with the theme 'Solutions for South Africa's countryside' at Nampo Park, Bothaville.

Based on the format of Landbouweekblad's highly successful Bela-Bela land conference in 2018, the most successful case studies of ordinary South Africans working to build better communities will be showcased.

Speakers include:

  • Judy Stewart, once a dairy farmer and now at the helm of Future Farmers, which trains needy black children to become world-class farm managers.
  • Jaco Breytenbach, a farmer and also involved in the Bethlehem Security Forum, managed from the control center in Bethlehem, and whose extensive network of security chambers throughout the Eastern Free State is one of the most successful anti-crime projects ever launched by farmers.
  • Lion du Plessis, a farmer from Ermelo and the founder of Children @ Play, with various projects to help children from poor households.
  • Pastor John Mathuhle, chairman of the Senekal-Matwabeng community forum. He was one of the people who played a crucial role in leading Senekal from unrest to a beacon of hope.
  • Willie Jones, a businessman and involved in the restoration of Koster's water facility.
  • Chris Bosch, CEO of Rural Maintenance, who established a solar farm to provide electricity to Frankfort.
  • Augusta Brandt, relationship manager at Bonnievale 418, on the successes of the Jakes Gerwel Technical School
By bringing together more than 60 key participants and sharing success stories of upliftment and hope, we aim to inspire South Africans to take the bull by the horns and ensure that rural South Africa not only survives but flourishes.

Tickets: R1 750 (VAT included, this amount includes the conference, meals and refreshments on both days, an evening event on the first night, and all information sessions). You also get 12 months' access to Landbou.com worth R1 800.

Businesses/institutions can also purchase a table for TEN people at R15 000. If you are interested send an email to [email protected].

The conference starts on Tuesday morning at 08:00 and concludes with dinner served at 18:00. The program resumes on Wednesday morning at 08:00, and the conference will be concluded by 16:00.
