Save Gaia's River Embankment & Campsite

Help us save our campsite and river embankment

Sadly with consistent rain in the Western Cape and the Breede river flooding above the 100 year flood line in places it has resulted in serious erosion to our beautiful river bank and campsite. The river has washed away at least 300m2 of our embankment and has taken away 3 of our camp spots and the access road to our campsite.

We have had to temporally close our campsite and hence the small amount of income that our campsite generates has also stopped.

In order for us to regain the piece of land thats washed away which is approximately 1000m3, and to put longer term erosion control in place to prevent further erosion and destruction to our property, but all of this comes with a price. We were quoted approximately R200,000 to repair, rebuild and to put proper erosion control in place which includes movement of earth and rocks, hire of heavy machinery and planting of suitable vegetation to replace some of the 25 year old trees and new saplings that got washed away. Sadly we don't have that kind of money available to us.
