ABOUT

The Johannesburg Chamber Music Collective is proud to present Zanta Hofmeyr (violin), Malané Hofmeyr-Burger (flute), and Erika Bothma (piano) in a programme of timeless classics to usher in the Summer.

The programme includes the sprightly sonata for violin, flute, and keyboard in C major by Johan Christoph Friedrich Bach (fifth son of Johann Sebastian), César Cui’s kaleidoscopic Five Pieces Op. 56, and much-loved melodies by Ennio Morricone, Fritz Kreisler, S. le Roux Marais, and John Rutter, to name a few.

Zanta Hofmeyr, a Juilliard School graduate under Dorothy Delay and Ho Kang, made her New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall. Returning to South Africa in 1985, she served as associate professor of violin at the University of Pretoria and currently teaches in Johannesburg. An acclaimed soloist, she has performed concerti by Britten, Beethoven, Bruch, Homer, and Mendelssohn. She has performed the 10 Beethoven sonatas with South African pianist Malcolm Nay and and with the Bulgarian pianist llia Radoslavov, touring SA and the US. Her recent performances include Brahms' Double Concerto and Violin Concerto and collaborations with the Wits Trio and the newly established Take Four piano quartet.

Malané Hofmeyr-Burger is a celebrated flautist and winner of the ATKV Forte and Oude Meester Competitions. Studying in Vienna and attending master classes with renowned flautists, she has soloed with major South African orchestras. A dedicated flute teacher, chamber musician, and member of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, her performances span South Africa and international stages and her albums, 'Air' and 'African Rondo,' received South African Music Award (SAMA) nominations.

Erika Bothma holds Music Education and Performance degrees, including a Doctor Musicae specialising in chamber music. A recipient of the UNISA Performance Licentiate in piano with distinction, she won the ATKV Forte Competition in 1983 and participated in UNISA's 1st International Piano Competition in 1981. Erika has showcased her talents as a concerto soloist with various orchestras and has an extensive chamber music background, collaborating with notable musicians.
