ABOUT

Sabelo Soko, Makhafula Vilakazi, Kitso Seti

Their music is themed around Blackness and what it means to exist in the world and townships of South Africa. It draws from the past, looking at the historical consequences of living in this time, and how we can move forward as a people, to call for unity within the marginalised.

Makhafula Vilakazi has recently published a collection of poems in a form of a book, IZINKONDLO zaseGoli, this follows his two wonderful projects, Concerning Blacks and I Am Not Going Back To The Township. Sabelo Soko's recent project, Spin Venek, which follows his debut Umkhondo, can be found on all major music platforms. Kitso Seti released Lot's Wife: The Curse of Hoza & Ngxobongwana. Makhafula and Sabelo have recently collaborated at the Leano Restaurant in Braamfontein, under the theme Leano Poetry Night in November 2022. These projects look into the Black life lived in South African cities of Johannesburg and Cape Town, extended to or from the townships in these very cities. All poets looking at the township/city dichotomy, having to exist in two different world at once.
