ABOUT

We're bringing a grand piano into the Bakery for this performance!

THE PROGRAMME

Beethoven Piano Trio No. 7 in B-flat Major, Op. 97, (Archduke Trio), trio for piano, violin and cello premiered on April 11, 1814, in Vienna. The premiere of the Archduke Trio was one of Beethoven’s final concert performances as a pianist, because of his increasing deafness. Dedicated to Archduke Rudolf of Austria—Beethoven’s benefactor student, and friend—it was the last of Beethoven’s piano trios, and it remains one of his best-known chamber works

Matthijs van Dijk “One Over Four” for violin, cello, and piano

Matthijs describes the work as follows: “Inspired in part by the electronic dance music gestures that worked their way into the piece, the rest of the work was an excuse to experiment with different sounds and effects, the most prominent involving a box of eleven “weasel balls” (a dog/cat toy – an electronic ball with an artificial tail attached to it, that rolls around).”
