ABOUT

YES ! Its The Orginal South African Bands from the 80's !!!

36 Years later..... With Old Favourites from "Uncomplicated dreams" like" Magic Mother", "Clowns","Wet Washing" &" Pressure".... and Songs from a Album released Overseas while being signed to Warner Brothers , but never in South Africa .....Heather Mac, Tim Parr, Herman Eugster and Adrian Levi reunited ! Be Pepared for the treat of 2022 !!!

Centering around theatrical vocalist Heather Mac and Guitarist Tim Parr, ELLA MENTAL where formed

in South Africa in early 1983 and released their first EP which debuted the single “PRESSURE’” this

was followed by “See Yourself (Clowns)” in late 1984, on debut album “Uncomplicated Dreams”

The band toured extensively, bringing an entourage of stalwarts with them, lugging PAs and props

and lighting rigs on a shoestring budget. The fans were out there, and Ella Mental was committed to

making it to their towns; from Bloem to Upington, from Cape Town to Plett, from Margate to

Verwoerdburg. The band produced three more singles: Song for Jenny, 30 Million Lonely People

and Madman, however South Africa had become too small. Madman was banned because it

wagged a finger Die Groot Krokodil, better known as P. W Botha, a man not known for his tolerance

of criticism. At this stage Bassist ,Adrian Levi was playing ‘duck’ from the Military Police, who wanted

to secure his services for the protection of the country from the ‘swart gevaar’, London looked a lot

more inviting. Heather and Tim had a new boychild and they both had dreams of cracking the Irish

audiences and there was international interest in the band. It was time to say goodbye

The group left for Ireland in 1986, set up a home and starting rehearsing for the big break. After a year

overseas, Adrian returned to South Africa and drummer Herman Eugster returned to his home in

Switzerland. Married couple Tim and Heather Parr were not to give up, and the big break came when

Warner Bros. spotted Ella Mental (now fleshed out by various Irish musicians) at the Marquee Club in

Soho.

The eponymous Ella Mental album was produced in the States and released in 1989 by Warner

Brothers in the USA, Australia, England and Europe, receiving a lukewarm response. It would never be

released in their home country, though.

NOW, 36 years later, in December 2022, Ella Mental with the original members will be rocking it live,

bringing all those great songs to Camel Rock, Scarborough Sat 10 December
