ABOUT

After a three-year hiatus, powerhouse trumpeter, composer and doyen of the South African Jazz tradition, Feya Faku has returned to the stage. He brings with him a high-energy quintet playing compositions from two recent albums, ‘Impilo’ and ‘Live at the Bird’s Eye’.

Fezile ‘Feya’ Faku a trumpeter, was born in New Brighton, a South African township in Port Elizabeth started playing without any formal training and received theory and practical lessons from various artists around Port Elizabeth. He later completed a Performers Diploma in Jazz Studies at the University of Natal, South Africa., which has made a title for itself as South Africa'’ university of Jazz, after producing some of the country’s jazz greats.

I was the youngest member of the Winston ‘Mankunku’ Ngozi Quintet,” says Feya. “I learnt a lot from working with these talented and experienced musicians.” He still continues to work very closely with Winston ‘Mankunku’ Ngozi. Feya has featured and worked with many South African Jazz greats such Abdullah Ibrahim and Duke Makasi.

Feya Faku has become a pillar of the south African Jazz community, confidently building a lasting legacy not only as a great Trumpeter but a collaborator seamlessly connecting with the traditional jazz scene and the youthful local jazz community.
