ABOUT

Shibari (AKA Kinbaku / Rope Bondage) is the erotic art of using rope to tie up oneself or a partner. Rope can be wielded with whatever intention is set between those playing with it: it can be an object for gentle, non-restrictive sensation play. It can also be a tool to create significant challenge and discomfort (even torturous sensation) for the body. It is a potent medium and should be treated with respect, patience, mindfulness and consciousness.

This introductory workshop will cover the basics of getting started in this practice. First, we will show you how we practice it in the context of our relationship, with a performance on Friday night. Saturday will be about the basics of safety and communication in rope, as well as combining basic ties to create a space for surrender in the person being tied. Sunday will kick off with a rope meditation and continue with a slightly more technical class on co-creating a sustainable upper body harness for the rope bottom's body. The morning sessions are suitable for singles and the afternoon sessions are for pairs. You can buy tickets for each session separately, or one ticket for the full event at a discounted rate.

Programme

Friday 7 - 8:30 PM| 21 Jan 2022 | R100 pp

Performance featuring Desire Lines and Vroeteldier

One of the ways we can share this craft is by showcasing it. In this performance, we will only be using techniques that will be taught throughout the weekend. We hope that this will inspire and motivate you to learn with us. Prepare to be intrigued, challenged, moved and maybe a little shook by our unfiltered intimacy in rope.

Saturday 10AM - 12PM | 22 Jan 2022 |R200 pp

Bondage Basics: safety, communication & simple ties

Suitable for singles and couples, this session will provide the critical information to get started with rope in a mindful, measured and safety-conscious way.

Saturday 1PM - 4PM | 22 Jan 2022 |R300 pp

Embodied Floorwork: creating space for surrender with rope

Building on the basics, we will practice using these building blocks to co-create a rope "scene" - a space for surrender. Tops will learn how to hold space and create sensation using basic ties. Bottoms will be given the tools to surrender and opportunity to self-advocate.

Sunday 9AM - 10AM | 23 Jan 2022 |R100 pp

Self-tying for self-soothing: a rope meditation session

Rope can be a powerful tool for connecting with your body. In this guided meditation we will be exploring the sensations that can be created, and experiencing these alongside the breath. This session is suitable for tops and bottoms, as well as singles.

Sunday 11AM - 2PM | 23 Jan 2022 |R300 pp

Upper body harnesses: co-creating a harness that works for

the bottom's physiology

In this class, we will be exploring different hand positions for creating harnesses. Based on feedback from bottoms, we will create harnesses that are both sustainable and restrictive (or non-restrictive!) to allow for more intense play.

Note: this class will only be run if a minimum of 3 couples sign up for it
