ABOUT

Healthcare Improvement Team South Africa (HITSA) is a Special Interest Group (SIG) of the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists. It is a multi-disciplinary group that looks specifically at leadership and management within the perioperative space with the aim of developing theatre managers and improving healthcare systems. The SIG operates across the academic, public and private sectors.

HITSA will be running the following Virtual Workshop, 20 November, 09h00-13h00:

Operating Theatre Management: Setting a course in uncertain times

Space travel has captivated humankind through the ages. Spaceships are highly complex systems consisting of multiple components, requiring meticulous construction and expert guidance. Similarly, a well-functioning Operating Theatre is a key component of any modern hospital.

Operating theatres are uniquely positioned within the hospital ecosystem: a highly specialised area that relies on numerous people and departments to ensure its optimal functioning, yet it also acts as a potential bottleneck for most disciplines.

This virtual workshop will address the central role that modern operating theatres occupy in three broad categories:

The Captain’s View – the senior hospital managers perspective on the role of operating theatres

The Engine Room – what is required to keep theatres running efficiently

The Flight Deck – putting patient safety at the centre of electronic record keeping

We look forward to seeing you there!
