Move For Me

About

Move For Me is the first virtual walk-a-thon/jog-a-thon/bike-a-thon fundraiser event by the Embracing Mental Illness Organization which is an aspiring NGO founded by Matshidiso Sithembile Seema who is proudly living with mental illness. One of the most saddest things about mental illness is constantly having days and moments where you feel like not wanting to exist, with the Move For Me Fundraiser we highlight this issue by encouraging South Africans to Move, whether by walking, jogging, or getting on the bike. We say "Move For Me" who is living with mental illness in my lowest days when I'm feeling numb and can't move a muscle and get tasks done. "Move For Me" to show I am not alone in this fight. We ask South Africans to please participate in the Fundraiser by walking, jogging, biking, and even running their desired distance from 5km what's important is that you move!! We also urge that you kindly make a donation. Money raised in this event will go towards getting the Embracing Mental Illness Organization project off the ground. The Embracing Mental Illness Organization aims at fighting stigma and reducing discrimination of people living with mental illness by promoting more empowering behaviours towards people with mental illness through their our Empowerment Programme. We also aim to create safe spaces to help patients to talk and share their diagnosis to encourage the public to seek help. The Organization mostly aims at being the voice of people living with mental illness in South Africa, our strong aim is to also fight human rights violations we face on a daily basis. For more information on the organization kindly go to our Facebook page: Embracing mental illness!

The event will take place on the 10th of October, 2021. With covid restrictions prohibiting mass gathering across the country, the event will be decentralised, which means there is no specific venue so you participate wherever you are in the country, it's a one day event you can participate at any time of the day. More information and updates will be posted on our Facebook page: Embracing mental illness, we can also be contacted via email:[email protected]. The event is not sponsord so unfortunately we have nothing nice to offer in return but your support is everything to us for it would put us a step closer to our goal!!
