About

Happy Youth Month

Every June, South Africa celebrates Youth Month. This is to commemorate the uprisings that began on 16 June 1976, when school children in Soweto marched in protest against the imposition of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in schools. The activism of those young people and the harsh response of the government at the time, turned the world’s eyes to South Africa and reinvigorated the struggle against Apartheid, which had lost momentum following the banning of liberation movements and the jailing of prominent leaders such as Nelson Mandela in the 1960s.

The events of 1976 are a testament to the powerful voice of young people and their central role as agents of change in society. As Nobsfitness we would like to invite you to join us in our initiative to raise money for the young athletes of Tembisa.

Thembisa Athletics is an athletics club founded in the East Rand, the club aims to attract young talented athletes in order to groom them and help develop the youth in the community. The club is run by coach Elvis and he currently trains, manages and mentors these young athletes. We have partnered up with them because we have witnessed their struggles and success, but most importantly we have witnessed their passion and dedication to running.

As we celebrate Youth Month we invite you to join us in raising funds to help the club and the team with resources they need, from running shoes to physiotherapists sessions so that they too can compete with confidence against other elite clubs.

The athletes' profiles will be shared on the nobsfitness Instagram page (@_nobsfitness_). Please do check them out and share them with any corporate or potential sponsors.
