ABOUT

We care about the welfare of equines everywhere and in this talk show style interview, we would like to share with you some of the wonderful work being done by other organisations in different parts of the country.

Please join us as when Fundraiser Karin Paschen from the Cart Horse Protection Association chats to Penny Ward and Kabelo Nkoane about the wonderful work being done by the Lesotho Equine Welfare Project.

The highlands of Lesotho can be a very isolated and unforgiving environment, and for many people living there, the only mode of transport is their equine.

There is an estimated 159 000 working equines in Lesotho.

They are used for agricultural production, herding and for the transportation of people and goods.

The Lesotho Equine Welfare Project works in 5 districts. Clinics are held at 14 Resource Centres and at 4 Riders for Health sites.

Since 2016, together with the National University of Lesotho (NUL), the Lesotho Equine Welfare Project now works directly with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) to train and mentor livestock extension officers.

Engaging with owners of working horses and donkeys through community clinics and workshops

Provide refresher training to local farriers to up-skill and improve their businesses
