ABOUT
African folktales are cultural time capsules and their storytellers are keepers of history and cultural identity. They have been used to teach morality and provide social and political commentary as well as providing a lens through which to view the world.
This panel explores the mechanics of the rich oral traditions alongside immersive and interactive technologies. We will explore how traditional content can be reconstructed and how the essence of these traditions can be applied to create digital stories relevant to Africans.
According to the African storytelling traditions, ‘Speech was believed to have power in it’s capacity to recreate history and relationships’. Now we have the technology to amplify these voices.
